Review: Kel-Tec Sub 2000 - Fun & Different

Are you looking for a backpack gun or something to simply make your friend’s jaw drop during your next trip to the range? Maybe you want to keep a gun in your truck or tractor without taking up too much space? Look no further than the Kel-Tec Sub 2000 Gen 2. This gun, offered in 9mm or 40 S&W, offers the accuracy of a rifle with the magazine capacity of your favorite pistol. Speaking of your favorite pistol, the Sub 2000 is offered in models that accept magazines from Glock, Smith & Wesson, Beretta, and Sig Sauer. The most popular (and typically hardest to find) is the Glock 19 version. Glock magazines being so easy to come by and offered in numerous sizes make this gun a perfect fit for those folks owning a Glock handgun or simply looking for maximum firepower in a small package. The best feature of this gun is that it folds in half. You read that correctly, the gun folds in half so the overall length is essentially half that of your average rifle. There’s no perfect way to describe this feature and paint an accurate picture, so I encourage you to watch a short video on the gun so you can understand how it folds up and stows away. Even the sights on this gun fold in the process and pop right back up when you open the gun for quick access and engagement.

So imagine having a gun with the accuracy of a rifle, taking up just a little more space than some of your large frame pistols and revolvers. Couple that functionality with a Glock 33 round 9mm magazine and you’ve truly got yourself a great self-defense gun in case you get caught in a bad situation or a handy rifle for trying to pick off a few of those coyotes out in your field that have gotten acclimated to sound of farm equipment. It’s quick, easy to use, easy to deploy and readily stored away for future use.

As far as accessories go, the Sub 2000 does accept M-LOK attachments at the 30, 60, and 90 degree angles on the polymer forearm of the gun. Personally, I’m a fan of an angled foregrip (AFG) on the bottom so you have a little something to hold on to during firing, yet you don’t take up as much space as you would with a full vertical grip. Of course there are endless possibilities of grips, lights, and gadgets to attach, but I believe Midwest Industries may have already released the most useful. The Midwest Industries T1/T2 Optic mount and the Mini Picatinny Rail Optic Mount allow you to attach optics to the gun without compromising its ability to fold away for storage. This mount attaches via the M-LOK system and has a cam feature that allows you to twist the optic out of the way when folding the gun and twist it back under the gun for storage.
